Dr. Terry L. Hunt

M.A., Ph.D., is Associate Professor and Graduate chair in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Hawai'I-Manoa.   He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Anthropology at University of Hawai'I, Hilo; his Master's Degree (First Class Honors) in Anthropology at University of Auckland   (New Zealand); and his Ph.D. in Anthropology at University of Washington.   Dr. Hunt has taught at University of Hawai'I since 1988.  

Dr. Hunt has been conducting archaeological field research in the Pacific Islands for more than 25 years.   He has also done research on the Mariana Islands, Vanuatu, the Marquesas, and New Zealand.   Dr. Hunt directs the Pacific Prehistory Project with two annual archaeological field schools, one in the Yasawa Islands of Fiji, the other on Rapa Nui.   Dr. Hunt has published numerous scholarly articles on Pacific archaeology, prehistory, and linguistics.   His work has been published by the Journal of the Polynesian Society, Archaeology in Oceania, Asian Perspectives, and Current Anthropology, among others.   He has co-edited four books, including a recent book on historical ecology and ancient landscape change published by Yale University Press ( Historical Ecology in the Pacific Islands , P.V. Kirch and T.L. Hunt, Eds., 1997).   His latest book is a collection of essays on method and theory in archaeology.
